The American cricket team stunned powerhouse Pakistan after winning the dramatic Super Over in the Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup in Dallas on Thursday.
The sensational win was the biggest in American cricket history. This win is considered as the biggest upset in the game of cricket.
USA is co-hosting the World Cup with West Indies for the 1st time.
In the 2022 tournament, the runners-up Pakistan cricket team is ranked sixth in the world while the American team is ranked 18th.
Nitish Kumar hit a match-saving boundary to force a super over, a tie-breaking format in which whoever scores the most runs in six balls wins, to the delight of the US fans at the Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium.
In the tie-breaking over, USA posted a total score of 18 runs.
Saurabh Netravalkar took the ball for USA and restricted the Pakistani batsmen to 13 to ensure the win.
USA captain Monank Patel was the team’s top batsman and was named the man of the match, and encouraged.
Patel said after the win, I am very proud of the boys.
America’s opening match in the tournament was also a grateful success. The United States beat Canada in their Group A opener, and now lead the group with four points.
India, who are also in Group A, are among the favorites to win the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Pakistan will now face traditional rivals India in New York on Sunday.
The last two matches of America’s Group A are against India and Ireland.
